This is Wilga! I choose to pronounce it with a Germanic bent – think Vilga. She is a #Faverolle, sporting the trademark beard. She is named after Wilgefortis, a female saint of popular religious imagination whose legend arose in the 14th century, and whose distinguishing feature is a large beard. Her name is thought by some to derive from the Old German “heilige Vartez” (“holy face”). Thanks @wikipedia! So, this is holy face the chicken! Love her!

I was trying to give Becky a little alone time with the feeder. She had to go to the vet today because she seems to have an inner ear infection. (See my last video for her dizzy and ear scratching symptoms.) Her alone time lasted about 30 seconds. Glo thinks she has rights and will not be denied!

It took the babies 20 minutes to find this melon and another 10 to decide it wasn’t a trap. Meanwhile, Vi sensed when purchased it and had been expecting it all afternoon. It took 15 seconds for her to take command once I let her out. I know Vi is a Cochin but she is really a Fatty-Boom-Blatty. I had to dig up the Thing I Did Not Plant in the compost pile. I dumped it in an unused corner of the garden, intending to look for the bulb or whatever it sprouted from. I forgot all about it. Week 9 chickens are OVER picture day. I don’t know if it is because they live in the big coop now or they know they are faster than me or they want to impress the big chickens but they are impossible! I had to hold a couple, some are blurry and we even had retakes. Week 10 is for sure the end.

Alejandra didn’t feel well yesterday. She had gone to bed early the night before, slept in late and then I caught her sleeping under the feeder before lunch. She wouldn’t eat the oatmeal I brought her (Vi was nice enough to handle it for her) and just kind of stood in the corner during playtime. She’s much perkier today! I found her on the highest perch early this morning! Yeah, Ali! (Anyone have an opinon on her dew claws? The vet trims them but I don’t think she cares.)
